The Musical Tadka in just another day in life - At Office

The sounds and sights are mostly the same in the office. The same receptionist , the occasional flowers being changed in the vases, the same tune playing in the lift when we are being transported to our designated cubicles, the same faces but different dresses that we see our colleagues, some professional greetings and informal hi's to people on the corridor and we are in our cubicle.

The infinite number of emails that keep trickling into our mailboxes, those forwards that sometimes bring a smile or a frown or a jealous look, those feedback mails from the client, the corrections in the presentations that have been sent over by boss and the happy birthday wishes/reminds from the HR department  -- ohhh , we have got a lot of mails to first take care before we head to my first of many coffee breaks. The Outlook chimes a few times suggesting the meetings over the last couple of hours and we need to make few calls to get things in place and reschedule them or procrastinate till eternity.

I realise now that i have missed out on something , listening to my favourite playlist which i have saved on the media player in office.so here comes my headphones and starts the flow - starting off from Hari Narayana < sung by Omprasad bhat, a singer/ friend in college> to the collection of Best of Backstreet Boys < show me the meaning of being lonely, quit playing games ... et al>. i am lost in this trance, when somebody taps my shoulder, i look around and see my boss and the whole team behind her.I think this is it, i am getting jacked, somethings really wrong ,all the bad combinations come into mind.

Suddenly my manager brings out an envelope from her back. I think what is it going to be - my Pink slip , somebody's wedding card, ohh what could it be .. I take off the headphones and some how struggle to stand up from my chair and then she tells me.. " Congratulations, you have been confirmed. " Everybody applauds and then there is the usual batter " bhai, treat kab hai ?", " which place- KFC or Pizza Hut? place we choose, bill u pay ". It takes me sometime to realise that i have been working for a year now and that's how this letter comes to me.I am  lost in a world, thinking how would it be when i retire and still to come in terms with this confirmation , when a colleague tells me " boss , have you finished that presentation , we need to send it across before lunch" and thats it i am grounded and back to this world where i got to slog a long while before i retire .

I finish the report and all this time listening to some fast paced songs< some from Linkin Park and some more R&B artists> to keep the momentum going and motivating me to get it done and be at my creative best. Now i realise it is lunchtime and we need to get back to our friends.

The Musical Tadka in just another day in life

Waking up to the alarm set in the phone, which is a monotone, a tone which most sound sleepers do not like at all, I realise it is the beginning of yet another day in my life. Nudging the natural instinct of searching for the TV remote and tuning into one of the music channels of the VH1, MTV, UTV Bindaas fame, I put on my lappy. As it boots into life, i am wincing my eyes and trying to get used to the surroundings i am in (though i get up & see the same things everyday). The purpose of getting on the lappy is not to getting online and check what many of my “virtual” friends have done in the last 12 hours, but to listen to some good music. Music by its nature is like a lady in different attires. The fight now is between hip-hop, R&B and their cousins and soft, instrumental and devotional music.

As classically proven, the Go(o)d wins over the dark(loud) forces. But still, the decision making unit in the body, the Mind is faced with various thoughts, so it decides to include some western classical music in the playlist. So here we go, to start with we have Yanni, the master. The rain must fail, acroyali-standing in motion, santorini and swept away just start off and i go for a small trip to dreamland. I am woken with the pleading of a nice voice in “Prabhuji” (Meera Kahe – Richa Singh). The number of times i hear to it, i want to hear it dat many more times. While i am lost in the beautiful “MayaNagari” that the name of Krishna takes you to, a sneak peek at the right hand bottom of my computer suggests it’s time to hit the showers.

As all of you my friends will know, we are all great bathroom singers. So there is a continuous playlist that goes on once inside the bathroom (Many of my hostel mates would agree to this). The singing becomes a hum all d while when getting ready, cos my roomies do not want to get up in the morning listening to my “LATA”-like voice.

All decked up in the attire of a typical professional, we have decided to make it to the office. But being the music aficionado that we are, we want some Madhura bhaspalu in the ears,so be it.The radio is switched on in the car, and bursts out from there RJ Shraddha or MJ Prithvi telling wat a bad jam is at XYZ place/ ABC junction and the day is made. They quickly make it up by announcing the next few back-2-back songs, like a “ Chikni Chameli” and a Sonu Nigam sung ”Tumhi Dekho na” and we reconsider the statement just made . Listening to the songs peppered by numerous ads for everything starting from hairfall treatment to holiday packages, from lovely deals at the best restaurants in town to the numerous contests running all day long on these radio channels, we crawl through the traffic to finally reach Office.

So once in there it is all work, work and work ...So catch you folks during lunch time.....

Till then, keep listening to Music.
